Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Your journey begins with pick-up from your accommodation in Fes.

 

Travel south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through Ifrane, known for its alpine-style charm, then continue through Azrou and its cedar forests where Barbary macaques are often seen.

 

After a lunch stop near Midelt, continue through changing landscapes and the spectacular Ziz Valley, famous for palm groves and panoramic desert scenery.

 

By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga and begin your first desert discovery. Explore the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy a camel trek into the sands at sunset.

Dinner, Berber music around the campfire, and overnight in a desert camp under the stars.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day discovering the magic of the Merzouga region by 4×4.

 

Visit nomadic families and learn about traditional desert life. Continue to Khamlia village, where you can enjoy live Gnawa music rooted in African heritage.

 

Depending on the season, you may also visit oasis areas, fossil sites, and hidden desert landscapes beyond the dunes.

 

Later, return to the dunes for free time to relax or enjoy another unforgettable sunset over the Sahara.

 

Dinner and overnight stay in the desert camp.

Wake early to witness sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, depart Merzouga and continue west through changing desert landscapes.

 

Stop in Rissani, a traditional market town rich in desert heritage, before traveling toward the spectacular Todra Gorges, where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically above the valley floor. Enjoy time to walk through the gorge and admire one of Morocco’s most impressive natural sites.

 

Later, continue to Boumalne Dades, famous for kasbah villages, dramatic rock formations, and scenic mountain landscapes.

 

Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

After breakfast, travel along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward Skoura Oasis.

Visit the beautiful Kasbah Amridil, one of Morocco’s best-preserved kasbahs, then continue to Ouarzazate where you may stop for Taourirt Kasbah or photos.

Next, discover the legendary Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages.

After free time for lunch and exploration, cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.

Arrival in Marrakech in the evening, with drop-off at your accommodation.

Is this tour private or shared?

This is a 100% private tour. You will travel only with your own group and driver/guide.

Yes. You can choose between a standard camp (private tent with shared facilities) or a luxury camp (private tent with en-suite bathroom and shower).

Yes. Both standard and luxury camps provide electricity, usually powered by solar energy or generators during certain hours in the evening and early morning. You can charge your phone and camera in your private tent or in the common area. 

Yes, most desert camps offer Wi-Fi in the common area. However, please note that the connection can be slow or limited due to the remote Sahara location. Mobile network coverage (especially Maroc Telecom) generally works in Merzouga and sometimes near the camp, but signal strength may vary. We encourage guests to enjoy the rare opportunity to disconnect, relax under the stars, and fully experience the magic of the Sahara, but you will still be able to stay in touch if needed.

Comfortable clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen, scarf for the wind, warm layers for the evening (especially in winter), and comfortable shoes.
