Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Skoura – Dades Gorges
Your journey begins in the morning with pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. We travel the High Atlas Mountains, with panoramic views and stops at traditional Berber villages. We visit the historic Kasbah of Glaoui in Telouet, once part of an important caravan route linking Marrakech to the Sahara.
Next, we explore the famous Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages. We continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” where you visit the Atlas Film Studios and Taourirt Kasbah.
After lunch, we drive through the lush Skoura oasis to visit Kasbah Amridil, then continue through the Rose Valley and the Dades Valley, towards the Dades Gorge to see the magnificent granite rocks. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in the Dades Gorges.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga (Sahara)
After breakfast, we continue the journey to the desert.
We stop at the spectacular Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls create one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes. Our journey continues through the Tafilalt oasis and the desert town of Erfoud, known for its fossils.
By afternoon, we reach Merzouga at the edge of the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi — the gateway to the Sahara. Here begins the highlight of your trip: a camel trek across the dunes at sunset, where the shifting sands glow in shades of gold and orange.
At your desert camp, you will enjoy dinner, live Berber music around the campfire, and a peaceful night under a sky full of stars.
Overnight in a desert camp in Berber tents (standard or luxury options available).
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Marrakech
Wake early to witness a magical Sahara sunrise over the dunes, a moment you’ll never forget. After a nomadic-style breakfast, ride camels back to the village of Merzouga where your driver awaits. We continue to Rissani, home to one of the region’s most traditional markets, Tafilalte, offering a glimpse into authentic desert life.
We continue to Nkob through the desert landscapes of Alnif and Tazarine, passing small Berber villages and palm groves along the way. There will be a stop for lunch in a local village, where you can discover the culture and beautiful kasbahs of the Ait Atta population.
In the afternoon, we travel through the stunning Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley, lined with thousands of palm trees and ancient kasbahs. We pass through Agdz and cross the Tizi n’Tnifift pass before reaching Ouarzazate for a coffee break.
From here, we continue our journey across the High Atlas Mountains, arriving in Marrakech in the evening, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation.

FAQs
Is this tour private or shared?
This is a 100% private tour. You will travel only with your own group and driver/guide.
Is 3 days enough to reach the Sahara from Marrakech?
Yes, this is the most popular and time-efficient way to experience the Sahara from Marrakech. While there are longer drives, the itinerary is carefully planned to include Morocco’s key highlights and a full desert experience in just three days.
Are the dunes in Merzouga the real Sahara?
Yes. Merzouga is home to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes, known for their tall golden sand dunes — the classic Sahara landscape most travelers are looking for.
Is the desert camp comfortable?
Yes. You can choose between a standard camp (private tent with shared facilities) or a luxury camp (private tent with en-suite bathroom and shower).
Are there electricity outlets in the desert camp?
Yes. Both standard and luxury camps provide electricity, usually powered by solar energy or generators during certain hours in the evening and early morning. You can charge your phone and camera in your private tent or in the common area.
Is there Wi-Fi in the desert camp?
Yes, most desert camps offer Wi-Fi in the common area. However, please note that the connection can be slow or limited due to the remote Sahara location. Mobile network coverage (especially Maroc Telecom) generally works in Merzouga and sometimes near the camp, but signal strength may vary. We encourage guests to enjoy the rare opportunity to disconnect, relax under the stars, and fully experience the magic of the Sahara, but you will still be able to stay in touch if needed.
What should I pack for the Sahara Desert?
Comfortable clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen, scarf for the wind, warm layers for the evening (especially in winter), and comfortable shoes.
