Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Ben Haddou – Zagora

Your journey begins with morning pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech.

We travel through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with panoramic views, winding mountain roads, and traditional Berber villages along the way.

Our first major stop is the iconic Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages. Explore its ancient earthen architecture and enjoy free time for lunch.

We then continue via Ouarzazate and through the lush Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s largest palm grove and countless traditional kasbahs.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Zagora, where your camel caravan awaits. Ride across the desert landscapes as the sun sets, then arrive at your camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner.

Enjoy Berber music around the campfire and a peaceful night under the stars in a nomadic tent. Overnight in a desert camp.

Wake early to witness a beautiful desert sunrise before breakfast at camp.

After breakfast, return by camel to Zagora where your driver awaits, and begin the journey back to Marrakech.

We stop in Agdz to visit the historic Tamnougalt Kasbah, then continue to Ouarzazate where you may visit Taourirt Kasbah and the famous film studios.

From here, we cross the High Atlas Mountains once again, stopping at scenic viewpoints along the way.

Arrival in Marrakech in the evening, with drop-off at your accommodation.

FAQs

Is this tour private or shared?

This is a 100% private tour. You will travel only with your own group and driver/guide.

Yes. You can choose between a standard camp (private tent with shared facilities) or a luxury camp (private tent with en-suite bathroom and shower).

Yes. Both standard and luxury camps provide electricity, usually powered by solar energy or generators during certain hours in the evening and early morning. You can charge your phone and camera in your private tent or in the common area.

Yes, most desert camps offer Wi-Fi in the common area. However, please note that the connection can be slow or limited due to the remote Sahara location. Mobile network coverage (especially Maroc Telecom) generally works in Merzouga and sometimes near the camp, but signal strength may vary. We encourage guests to enjoy the rare opportunity to disconnect, relax under the stars, and fully experience the magic of the Sahara, but you will still be able to stay in touch if needed.

Comfortable clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen, scarf for the wind, warm layers for the evening (especially in winter), and comfortable shoes.

Zagora offers a true desert atmosphere with rocky landscapes and smaller dunes, making it perfect for a short 2-day trip. For the large golden dunes, Merzouga is a better option but requires at least 3 days.
